a PhD position in the Behavioral Ecology & Sociobiology Unit

The German Primate Center GmbH - Leibniz-Institute for Primate Research in Göttingen is a primate research and competence center that does basic research. It concentrates on four main areas named Organismic Primate Biology, Infections Research and Neurosciences. The DPZ maintains three field stations to do research on and with primates. Furthermore, it is one of 91 research and infrastructure establishments of the Leibniz Association.

The Behavioral Ecology & Sociobiology Unit at the German Primate Center (http://www.dpz.eu) in collaboration with the Department of Genomic and Applied Microbiology at the Georg-August University Göttingen (http://appmibio.uni-goettingen.de) offers, pending final approval by the German Research Foundation (DFG), a PhD position for 3 years starting on January 1st 2018 (payment: 65% E13 TV-L).

Applicants must have a MSc degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field. Further job requirements include field experience (preferably in the tropics), experience working in the lab (genetic analyses), the ability to work independently as well as basic French skills. Good quantitative, analytical, and English skills are also essential. Familiarity with observation methods, genetic analyses and experience in analyzing large data sets are highly desirable.

This project is part of a research unit (FOR 2136-1/2) funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) entitled "Sociality and Health in Primates". PIs from Göttingen, Berlin and Leipzig will combine their knowledge and skills to take up a novel collaborative research projects on this topic.

The appointment at the DPZ follows the applied regulations of civil service. In case of equal qualifications disabled persons are preferred.
