The pandemic has been with us for more than two years now, and SARS-CoV-2, the uninvited virus, is unlikely to disappear from our daily lives any time soon. This makes the research on the corona virus conducted by infection biologists at the DPZ all the more important. Starting on page 13 of the current brochure, you can read how the scientists have examined the various virus variants and discovered what distinguishes them from the original virus.

Two different projects focused on the vocal communication of primates. On the one hand, the researchers investigated the development of vocalizations in common marmosets and found out that this is by no means as predetermined as previously assumed. On the other hand, the scientists analyzed the sounds of free-living Guinea baboons and were able to show that they grunt with an "accent". We report on what this is all about starting on page 21.

You can also find out how genetically modified monkeys are created and why they are valuable for research, how neuroscientists are investigating the origins of attention, and how a newly developed algorithm makes it possible to detect the orienting of ongoing movements towards a target direction.

We hope you enjoy reading it!

The brochure is available in printed form and can be viewed and downloaded online on our website. "Highlights of our Research" is published once a year and can be ordered free of charge. Please send us an e-mail with your postal address to presse(at)dpz.eu.
