It concentrates on three main areas named Organismic Primate Biology, Infections Research and Neurosciences. The DPZ maintains four field stations to do research on and with primates. Furthermore it is one of 92 research and infrastructure establishments of the Leibniz Association.

MASTER THESIS IN BIOLOGY (MSc)

A NOVEL NEXT-GENERATION-SEQUENCING APPROACH FOR EXAMING SPIROCHETE DIVERSITY IN NONHUMAN PRIMATES

The Neglected Tropical Diseases work group (Dr. S. Knauf) at the German Primate Center in Göttingen is offering a master thesis to support its leading research on various Treponema infections in primates. The focus of the project is a next generation sequencing (NGS) application to diagnose an array of unknown spirochete infections. The student will focus on validating a novel NGS approach as a diagnostic tool. After establishing the capacity for diagnosis, the NGS tool will be applied to rhesus macaque oral swab samples to assess spirochete diversity. The selected candidate will be expected to perform both laboratory work as well as basic data analysis of NGS results. Motivation and the ability to work in a team are a must where as basic knowledge of command line and statistically analysis is an asset.
