Bioinformatician (group leader)

The German Primate Center (DPZ) - Leibniz Institute for Primate Research is one of 96 research and infrastructure establishments of the Leibniz Association. It conducts basic biological and biomedical research in all fields in which non-human primates play essential roles: in particular in infection research, the neurosciences and organismic primate biology. Besides its research infrastructure in Göttingen the DPZ maintains four field stations to do research on and with primates.

The Primate Genetics Laboratory is seeking a highly motivated

Bioinformatician (group leader)
all genders welcome

The position is initially limited for 2 years with an option for a permanent position.

We analyze many different non-human primate (NHP) genomes. An important part of the work is the bioinformatic analysis within our comprehensive study of newly generated NHP genome sequences, which covers studies of phylogeny, demographics, population genomics, species hybridization, and identification of natural adaptation. Furthermore, these data are being used to study the genomic organization of highly complex immunogenetic regions such as MHC or KIR. In addition, we analyze the coding and non-coding transcriptome of human and NHP natural killer cells with respect to development and function of these lymphocytes.

We are looking for a highly determined and enthusiastic scientist with a MSc degree in bioinformatics or biology and experience in the analysis of whole genome data. The successful candidate will have experience in different computer languages such as Python or R, as well as in several tools typically used in genomics and transcriptomics such as SAMtools, BEDtools, GATK. In addition, the scientist is expected to supervise PhD students of bioinformatics and acquire external research funding.

We offer an international team of highly motivated and supportive researchers. Our institute is actively committed to support the compatibility of work, family and private life and was rewarded with the certificate beruf-und-familie in 2010 (https://www.dpz.eu/en/career/working-at-the-dpz.html).

The appointment to the position of bioinformatician at the DPZ will be in accordance with the regulations applicable to the civil service. The classification is based on the TV-L. Applicants with disabilities and equal qualifications will be given preferential consideration. We kindly ask you to indicate any disabilities in your application.

Please send your written application including all certificates, quoting “Bioinformatics”, until October 15th 2020 to Deutsches Primatenzentrum GmbH – Leibniz Institut für Primaten-forschung – Personnel Office – Kellnerweg 4 – 37077 Göttingen or via mail to bewerbung(at)dpz.eu.
