Postdoctoral position

The German Primate Center (DPZ) - Leibniz Institute for Primate Research is one of 96 research and infrastructure establishments of the Leibniz Association. It conducts basic biological and biomedical research in all fields in which non-human primates play essential roles: in particular in infection research, the neurosciences and organismic primate biology. Besides its research infrastructure in Göttingen the DPZ maintains four field stations to do research on and with primates (see www.dpz.eu).

The Cognitive Ethology Lab offers a

Postdoctoral position

Topic: Machine Learning approaches in the analysis of the community structure of wild Guinea baboons

Starting Date: as soon as possible

Duration: 24 months, with an extension of 18 months possible

The aim of the project is to apply machine learning approaches to uncover the community structure of wild Guinea baboons ranging at the field station “CRP Simenti” in Senegal. The aim is to develop a system for automatically identifying (i) different species or predators and prey species in the area, (ii) individual Guinea baboons, with the aim to uncover association patterns between individuals and subgroups, also in relation to predator presence.

We offer an exciting research environment at the Leibniz ScienceCampus for primate cognition, with an interdisciplinary group of researchers from Data Science, Computational Neuroscience, Behavioral Biology and other fields. We expect a strong background in machine learning techniques. Candidates should be willing to work with researchers with very different backgrounds. Enthusiasm for thinking about statistical problems is also welcome.

Further information about the lab and our research program can be found at https://www.dpz.eu/en/unit/cognitive-ethology/about-us.html. See also https://www.primate-cognition.eu

The appointment at the DPZ follows the applied regulations of civil service. The classification follows the TV-L. Applicants with disabilities and equal qualifications will be given preferential consideration. We kindly ask you to indicate any disabilities in your application.
