Budget
The German Primate Centre is organized as a limited liability company. When it was founded in 1977, the state of Lower Saxony and the Federal Republic of Germany concluded a partnership agreement. Both shareholders each hold 50 percent of the institute's shares. The financing of personnel and material resources (excluding third-party funds) by the federal and state governments amounted to approx. 19 million euros in 2024.

Third party funding
In 2024, the scientists at the DPZ spent approx. 6.4 million euros in third-party funding from research funding organizations such as the DFG or from other third-party funding sources. This corresponds to a third-party funding share of approx. 34 percent of federal and state funding (grants). Third-party funding income fell in 2024 compared to previous years.

Staff
At the end of 2024, 483 people were working for the DPZ, although a certain proportion of them were part-time or in training. This means that the institute has doubled the number of its employees in the past fifteen years. If you include the employees who support our researchers in the DPZ field stations, the number of DPZ employees is even higher.
