The German Primate Center (DPZ) - Leibniz Institute for Primate Research is one of 96 research and infrastructure establishments of the Leibniz Association. It conducts basic biological and biomedical research in all fields in which non-human primates play essential roles: in particular in infection research, the neurosciences and organismic primate biology. The Research Training Group (RTG) 2070 „Understanding Social Relationships“ and the DPZ offer a
full Ph.D. position (all genders welcome)
beginning October 1st, 2021 (with some possible flexibility) for up to three years. The salary is in accordance with the German public service salary scale (65%, E13 TV-L).
The position is located in a project studying the abilities of different primates to evaluate other social agents and make decisions in different (social) contexts. The project is part of the RTG 2070 that integrates research from Developmental, Cognitive and Social Psychology with human and non-human primates. Ideal candidates have a background in Psychology, Behavioral Biology, Animal Cognition or Cognitive Science. A strong motivation to conduct research, the willingness to engage in scientific exchange with other disciplines and the ability to work independently are essential. Willingness and some flexibility to collect data in different research sites is also essential.
Additional requirements:
- A very good M.Sc. degree (or equivalent) in Psychology, Biology, or similar fields
- Very good English skills (written and spoken)
- Experience with studying animal behavior and conducting behavioral experiments with primates are advantageous
- Statistical and analytical abilities (e.g., R) are beneficial
- Basic French language skills are beneficial but not essentially required
