The Cognitive Neurology Group (CNG) is a research group within the Institute for Cognitive Neurology at the University Medical Center Göttingen (UMG), led by Prof. Dr. Melanie Wilke. We are closely affiliated with the Department of Cognitive Neuroscience, headed by Prof. Dr. Stefan Treue at the German Primate Center (DPZ), where our research is conducted.
Our primary goal is to understand the neural mechanisms of conscious perception and investigate how these processes influence the selection and execution of action plans. We employ a multimodal research approach that integrates causal brain modification techniques, fMRI, and electrophysiological recordings in behaviorally trained macaques. Additionally, we conduct comparative studies with healthy participants and patients suffering from neurological conditions such as stroke or Parkinson’s disease.
We maintain close collaborations with the Decision and Awareness Group (DAG) led by Dr. Kagan, Prof. Dr. Bähr (Department of Neurology, UMG), the Sensorimotor Group led by Prof. Dr. Gail, the Neurobiology Laboratory led by Prof. Dr. Scherberger, and the Biomedical Physics Group led by Prof. Dr. Luther and Dr. Parlitz at the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics and Self-Organization.
Our work is supported by funding from the Hermann and Lilly Schilling Foundation, the Volkswagen Foundation, the Else Kröner-Fresenius Foundation, as well as funding from UMG and CNL.
