34 years ago on Feb 6th: Arson attack on the DPZ

On 6 February 1983, the heading of the Göttingen Tageblatt was as follow: “‘Opponents of Animal research’ as arsonists“. What was supposed to be a campaign for the welfare of animals turned out harming three animals considerably.

On the night of February 6, radical opponents of animal testing set fire to the entrance hall of the DPZ that was still under construction. A switch box for the heating system of the animal house was damaged. The temperature in the animal house dropped so rapidly that three cotton-top tamarin females (Saguinus oedipus) needed incubator care to survive.
