Life has finally returned to the DPZ! There are people in the corridors again, workshops and lectures are taking place in attendance and and even our cafeteria has reopened. So it's fitting that we've also been showing an exhibition at the DPZ again since 11 November. "In the jungle" focuses on primate research in the Amazon using the example of our field station in Peru. There will be guided tours and other accompanying events until the end of March, to which we cordially invite everyone who is interested!

The fact that communication and transparency are guiding principles at the DPZ is also reflected by the recent events. For example, all staff members were invited to an energy day to discuss how we can save energy at the DPZ and tackle our goal of climate neutrality. We also launched an initiative to promote animal welfare, research quality and staff welfare. The first two events on work-related psychological stress for staff working with animals were very well received, more events on the topic will folow.

In the workshop "Bridging the technological Gap - Spreading technological innovations to study the human and animal mind", 30 young scientists presented how research on cognition and behaviour can be carried out with as little disruption to the animals as possible. Interesting and somehow fitting for the holidays, when our ability to socialise is particularly challenged, are the latest findings by our field researchers: The more complex the social life of an animal species becomes, the more sophisticated its ability to communicate.

We wish you a peaceful, communicative holiday season and a successful 2023.

DPZ aktuell is published four times a year, has about 35 pages each and can be subscribed to free of charge. Of course, the magazine is also available in the building: You will find it at the reception desk or in the library.
