Clinical analyses

The Platform Infection Models offers clinical laboratory analyses for non-human primates in the context of experimental projects or diagnostic examinations. Various veterinary analyzers from ScilVet are available for clinical analyses. The practice information software scilvIP® from ScilVet is used for the evaluation and archiving of measurement data. The laboratories are authorized to process samples from biosafety levels 1-3 in accordance with the regulations of the Biological Agents Ordinance, the Specified Animal Pathogen Ordinance, and the Genetic Engineering Act.

If you are interested in our services or have further questions, please contact us. In particular, we kindly ask you to get in touch with us prior to sending any samples. Please follow the packaging instructions. Improper sample collection, storage, or transport can significantly affect the measurement parameters and, in some cases, render the results unusable.

Services

Hematology

The determination of the hematological blood profile is performed using the Element HT5 hematology system from ScilVet. The reference values can be flexibly adjusted to customer-specific values, recommended reference values from the literature, or reference and comparison values from in-house animals used in breeding and infection studies.

Measurement parameters: WBC, RBC, PLT, HGB, MPV, HCT, MCV, MCH, MCHC, RDW-CV, NEU#, NEU%, LYM#, LYM%, MON#, MON%, EOS#, EOS%, BAS#, BAS%

Sample material: EDTA whole blood

Required volume: 50 microliter

Prices available upon request.

Clinical blood chemistry

The RC3X analyzer can measure a wide range of clinical-chemical and immunological blood parameters. The selection of individual parameters or organ-specific profiles is flexible and depends on the clinical question.

Measurement parameters: ALB, ALP, ALT, AMY, AST, BA, BUN, CA, CHOL, CL, CPK, CREA, FRU, GGT, GLU, K, LAC, LIPA, MG, NA, PHOS, TBIL, tCO2, TP, UA, UPC, A/G#, AGap#, B/C#, C-CA#, GLOB#, NA/K#, UREA# (# calculated parameters)

Sample material: Lithium-heparin whole blood or serum

Required volume: depending on the selected panel

Comment: The stability of the analytes varies and, when stored between 2-8°C, ranges from one day to a few weeks. With prolonged storage or exceeding the recommended temperatures, accurate measurement of the parameters can no longer be guaranteed.

Before sending blood samples for clinical blood chemistry, it is necessary to carefully pipette the plasma or serum into a tube without additives.

Prices available upon request.

Blood coagulation

The examination of blood coagulation is performed using the portable Element COAG+ device from ScilVet. The determination of the two coagulation parameters, Prothrombin Time (PT) and activated Partial Thromboplastin Time (aPTT), provides information about blood coagulation and potential coagulation disorders. The measurement can be done directly on the animal or alternatively with whole blood samples.

Measurement parameters: PT, aPTT

Sample material: Citrate whole blood or fresh venous blood

Required volume: 50 microliter

Comment: The stability of the coagulation factors is eight hours after blood collection at 20-25°C. Beyond this time period, an accurate measurement of the coagulation parameters can no longer be guaranteed.

Prices available upon request.

Urine analyses

For urine analysis, we use the portable handheld device PocketChem™ UA PU-4010 with AUTION sticks. The evaluation of the test strips is done instrumentally.

Measurement parameters: GLU, PRO, BIL, URO, pH, BLD, KET, NIT, LEU, KRE, SPG

Sample material: Urine

Required volume: One milliliter

Comment: The samples must be stored and transported under cooled conditions. For holding times longer than two hours, individual parameters may decrease or increase and no longer reflect the actual value.

Prices available upon request.
