We use YouTube and Google Maps on our website. We also use Vimeo. These services may process personal data such as IP addresses and cookies and may also transfer data to the USA. They use EU standard contractual clauses in accordance with Art. 46 GDPR. Detailed information on the specific functions, data processing and opt-out options can be found in the following sections.
YouTube plugins
We use plugins from YouTube, operated by Google Ireland Ltd, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland, and YouTube LLC, 901 Cherry Ave, San Bruno, CA 94066, USA.
How it works:
Videos are integrated on our website via HTML links. This prevents data from being automatically transmitted to YouTube when you visit our site. The following data is only collected when you click on a video:
- Time and duration of access,
- the URL of the page accessed,
- your IP address.
If you are logged into your Google account, this information can be linked to other stored data.
Data processing and purpose:
YouTube creates user profiles in order to:
- display targeted advertising,
- conduct market research,
- optimize its services.
Processing may take place across devices (e.g. linking data from different devices if you have given Google your consent to do so).
Legal basis:
Data processing is based on your consent (Art. 6 para. 1 lit. a GDPR) or our legitimate interest (Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f GDPR) in being able to conveniently integrate the videos.
Opt-out options:
- Use of ad blockers or plugins,
- Deactivation of Google tracking (Google Ads opt-out): https://www.google.com/settings/ads/onwebdisplay_optout

Data processing and purpose:

Vimeo plugins
We use Vimeo plugins, operated by Vimeo Inc, 555 West 18th Street, New York, New York 10011, USA.
In order to better protect your data when you visit our website, the videos are only integrated into our pages to a limited extent using an HTML link. These do not yet establish a connection between the provider's servers and the browser or device you are using when you visit our website. Only when you click on one of the videos is a direct connection established between the Vimeo servers in the USA and your web browser. Your IP address is also transmitted in the process.
Further information:
If you click the start button of the video, this interaction is also transmitted to Vimeo and saved. If you want to prevent this as much as possible, log out of your Vimeo profile before visiting our website and activate the add-ons offered by all common browsers to prevent tracking.
If you are not logged into your Vimeo account, Vimeo states that your visit to our website will not be merged with other personal data.
Vimeo privacy policy and further information:
Vimeo may also use Google Analytics via the inline frame in which the video is accessed. We have no influence on this data processing. You can deactivate Google Analytics by installing the [Google Opt-Out Plugin](https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout?hl=en).
You can prevent cookies from being saved by selecting “Block cookies” in your browser settings. You can also install so-called AdBlocker add-ons or plugins.
Legal basis:
The legal basis is the express consent you may have given when accessing the site in accordance with Art. 6 para. 1 lit. a GDPR. Our legitimate interest in the use of Vimeo within the meaning of Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f GDPR is the comfortable and simple user experience when playing videos on our website.

3.4. Matomo (formerly Piwik) web analysis
We use the web analysis service Matomo, operated by Innocraft Ltd, 150 Willis St, 6011 Wellington, New Zealand.
Matomo analyzes how the website is used by you. For this purpose, cookies (see above) may be set on the system you use when you visit our website. With the help of the cookie, your IP address, time, location and frequency of your visit to our website are transmitted to our servers and processed there for the purpose of analyzing website usage. Your IP address is immediately anonymized. Pseudonymized user profiles are created using the information collected. This data will not be merged with any other personal data stored about you without your express consent and will not be used to identify you.
Our legitimate interest in the use of this service within the meaning of Art. 6 I lit. f) GDPR is to analyze our offer and the reach of our website and to optimize it for our visitors.
You do not want this?
You can object to the collection and processing of your data by clicking on the following checkbox. A deactivation (opt-out) cookie will be set in your browser. Matomo will then not collect any data from you when you visit our website. Please note: The opt-out cookie will no longer work the next time you visit our website if you have activated the deletion of all cookies after the end of the session in your browser settings. Alternatively, you can also set in all common browsers that websites are generally not allowed to track user activities (do-not-track).
You can find more information in Matomo's privacy policy at: https://matomo.org/privacy-policy/
4.5. Contact form and registration for the events
If you send us inquiries via our contact form, the data you provide, including the contact details you provide (e.g. name, email address, message), will be processed exclusively for the purpose of processing your inquiry and in the event of follow-up questions. Our website is offered by us as a research institute that thrives on scientific exchange, education and dialog. Communication and educational work are therefore an important concern of the DPZ, which is why there are various ways to contact us via the website.
The data entered in the contact form is processed on the basis of Art. 6 para. 1 lit. b GDPR, provided that your request is related to the fulfillment of a contract or is necessary for the implementation of pre-contractual measures. In all other cases, the processing is based on our legitimate interest pursuant to Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f GDPR to process inquiries effectively and promote scientific dialog, or on your consent pursuant to Art. 6 para. 1 lit. a GDPR, provided that you have given it.
The data you enter in the contact form will be deleted as soon as your request has been finally processed and there are no legal retention periods to the contrary. To protect your data, we use state-of-the-art security measures, including SSL-encrypted transmission via HTTPS. Please note that although communication via the contact form is encrypted, the security of data transmissions on the Internet is generally subject to certain risks.
The data collected from you when you visit our website and use our forms (contact request, registration for an event, search terms, etc.) is processed on the servers of our host provider on our behalf.
When you register for an event, our server stores your request for a period of 6 months so that the number of participants can be displayed online and double bookings and overbooking can be avoided. Our legitimate interest is the use of a simplified, user-friendly, modern and fast registration tool on our web interface within the meaning of Art. 6 I lit. f) GDPR.
4.7. Social media recommendation buttons
To better protect your data, we use the “Shariff solution”. Our plugins do not establish a connection to provider servers when you visit our site. The page of the social network is only opened when you click on a plugin. After logging in, you can click the buttons there and only then will information be assigned to your profile and shared.
Facebook
We use Facebook plugins operated by Meta Platforms, Inc, 1601 Willow Road, Menlo Park, California 94025, USA, responsible body for data processing within the EU: Meta Platforms Ireland Limited, Merrion Road, Dublin 4, D04 X2K5, Ireland.
This allows Facebook to associate your visit to our pages with your Facebook account. If you want to prevent this assignment, please log out of your Facebook account before visiting our site. However, Facebook tracks your activity on our site even if you are not logged in or do not have a Facebook account and can create a so-called shadow profile. This data can be assigned to your profile when you log in again. All data collected in this way may be processed and stored on Facebook servers in non-EU countries. If you want to prevent this: Extensions are offered for all common browsers to prevent tracking, especially Facebook tracking.
We would like to point out that we have no knowledge of the content or use of your transmitted data to and by Facebook. Further information can be found in Facebook's privacy policy at: http://de-de.facebook.com/policy.php
Twitter-Plugins/X-Plugins
We use Twitter plugins, operated by Twitter International Unlimited Company,
One Cumberland Place, Fenian Street, Dublin 2, D02 AX07, Ireland.

This tells Twitter which of our pages you have visited. According to Twitter, the data transmitted in the process, e.g. IP address and page accessed, is only processed to display the Twitter plugin and not for any other purpose. Your visit to our website will not be merged with any other personal data of yours.
If you click “Re-Tweet” or another Twitter plugin, you link our pages to your Twitter account and make this information known to other users, in particular your followers.
We would like to point out that we have no knowledge of the content or use of your transmitted data to and by Twitter. Further information can be found in Twitter's privacy policy at: twitter.com/de/privacy
You can adjust your data protection settings on Twitter in your account settings at: https://twitter.com/account/settings

The plugin establishes a direct connection between LinkedIn servers and the web browser you are using. As soon as you access one of our pages with a LinkedIn plugin, it is loaded from their servers and the download is registered. This tells LinkedIn which of our pages you have visited.
According to LinkedIn, the data transmitted, e.g. IP address and page accessed, is only processed to display the plugin and not for other purposes. Your visit to our website will not be merged with any other personal data of yours.
If you click “Recommend”, you link our pages to your LinkedIn account and disclose this information to other users.
