Lecture (2 credit hours) and Seminar (2 credit hours)
The lecture series From Vision to Action provides an introduction to visual processing and action planning in the central nervous system of primates. We will give an overview of the various stages of processing along the two main streams of visual processing, one leading to object perception and the other to movement planning. We will place particular emphasis on the discussion of general design and coding principles. Additionally, we will discuss how advances in neuroscience can lead to clinical applications such as visual and motor neuroprosthetics or improved neuropsychological programs.
The course can be completed either with the seminar (Module M.Psy.901) or without the seminar (Module M.Bio.350).
Seminar (Module M.Psy.901)
The elective module Vision to Action (M.Psy.901) for the Master's program in Psychology consists of both the lecture and the seminar.
The seminar offers students in-depth insights into selected topics, primarily based on original research papers, which will be investigated and presented by the seminar participants. The seminar topics are linked to the lecture topics but delve much deeper and require more intensive engagement with these topics.
The lecture and seminar are relevant for the written module exam at the end of the semester.
Seminar Enrollment (Module M.Psy.901)
Seminar places will be allocated during the preparatory session. Enrollment in the seminar will only be confirmed if you are personally informed via email or during the preparatory session (see lecture schedule). Available seminar places for Module M.Psy.901 will be prioritized for students in the Master's program in Psychology.
Due to the accompanying seminar, Module M.Psy.901 requires attendance throughout the semester.
Important: The seminar enrollment does not replace the module registration in FlexNow for the selected participants.
Students from Other Programs
The course is also suitable for students from other programs, such as medical students or neuroinformatics students. Guest students who cannot register for the module otherwise should email at the beginning of the semester.
Location and Dates
This semester, lectures and seminars will take place in the old lecture hall of the DPZ. Exceptions for specific dates will be announced on the lecture schedule page.
