As a central infrastructure facility, the animal husbandry at the German Primate Center is a key pillar of its service-oriented mission, providing services raning from breeding, housing, and care oft he animals to veterinary diagnostics.
Animal husbandry at the DPZ strictly complies with legal requirements. An important task of animal husbandry is to monitor and continuously improve the husbandry conditions.
The animals at the DPZ are kept either in large breeding groups or in small groups for experimental purposes. In addition, our numerous tasks also include the provision of animals from our own breeding colonies and the procurement and quarantine of imported primates.
The complete veterinary care of the animals also plays a central role in our animal husbandry. In addition to caring for its own colonies, the DPZ accompanies scientific veterinary projects at other research institutes and provides scientific institutions throughout Europe with a wide range of biological samples from the animals and accompanies scientific veterinary projects at other research institutes. The comprehensive diagnostic service includes the fields of pathology, microbiology, parasitology and virus diagnostics.
