Services

The Endocrinology Laboratory supports in-house biomedical and comparative research, as well as external partners from academia, species and nature conservation, and zoos. We offer a wide range of physiological analyses, focusing primarily on urinary and fecal samples, with additional options for saliva and blood analysis. With extensive experience in behavioral endocrinology, behavioral ecology, field research, reproductive biology, and species conservation, we provide valuable contributions to both national and international projects. Our laboratory is part of a broad global network and is utilized by scientists worldwide.

Elephants and rhinos: Reproductive monitoring

Our service for reproductive monitoring of elephants and rhinos has been successfully supporting the European Endangered Species Programme for Asian and African elephants for over 30 years. Through weekly hormone analyses, we monitor more than 80 animals across 27 zoos throughout Europe. Over 40 institutions have already relied on our expertise, and we have provided precise hormone data on the female reproductive status for over 300 elephants.
