Social Evolution in Primates

What we do

The Primate Social Evolution Research Group is affiliated with the Department of Behavioral Ecology at the Johann-Friedrich-Blumenbach Institute for Zoology and Anthropology at the University of Göttingen through a bridge professorship. We investigate the evolution of social behavior in terms of its adaptive value, hormonal regulation, and underlying cognitive mechanisms. We run a long-term study on Assamese macaques in the Phu Khieo National Park in Thailand and also conduct research on Barbary macaques at the Affenberg Salem.
