During her lab rotation, Carolin Knauer (Master program Molecular Medicine) studies the activation of the viral surface protein of the MERS (Middle East respiratory syndrome) coronavirus by cellular proteases. Her particular focus lies on the role of the serine protease TMPRSS2 during the viral entry process.
