MERS-coronavirus infection can induce severe disease. MERS cases mainly occur in the Middle East but researchers are concerned that the virus might mutate and spread globally. Hannah Kleine-Weber is investigating how polymorphisms in the viral spike protein and its cellular interaction partner DPP4 impact MERS-coronavirus infection.
