Novel rhesus macaque foamy virus isolate sequenced.

Foamy viruses are found in many if not all primate species with the notable exception of humans. Even though humans occasionally become infected through contact with primates, these viruses have not been associated with disease, and infection is asymptomatic in both humans and monkeys. Therefore, foamy viruses have not been studied intensively and, so far, only a limited number of these interesting atypical retroviruses have been fully sequenced.
