Platform Infection Models

The Platform Infection Models was launched on May 1st, 2023 under the direction of Dr. Nadine Krüger. The task of the platform is the establishment and continuous development of suitable infection models in order to investigate specific issues related to infectious diseases, particularly focusing on viral infections.

Not only novel infectious agents such as SARS-CoV-2 pose a health risk to the population, but there are also numerous human-pathogenic viruses for which effective antiviral drugs or vaccines to prevent infections or treat affected patients specifically are not available even years or decades after their discovery. Additionally, the mechanisms by which viruses spread in the body and cause diseases are not always sufficiently understood. Therefore, the research on infectious agents and potential therapeutic and preventive measures remains highly relevant.
