Alexander Mehr („Molecular Life Sciences: Microbiology, Biotechnology and Biochemistry“ program) is cloning subgenomic fragments of primate herpesviruses into cosmids, in which he will insert genes for fluorescent proteins by recombineering. This allows to derive fluorescent viruses, which for example can be used to investigate viral trafficking in neurons.
