Berenice Fischer (Microbiology, Biotechnology and Biochemistry program) analyzes within her lab rotation whether old and new word arenaviruses differ in their capacity to enter cells of different species. For this, she is transducing rodent, human and non-human primate cell lines with vectors bearing the arenavirus glycoprotein GPC. The vector system allows the analysis of cell entry of highly pathogenic viruses without risk of infection.
