After studying veterinary medicine in Gießen, Mrs. Prof. Dr. Rabea Hinkel moved to internal medicine at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, where she completed her PhD in 2009. Rabea Hinkel initially worked at the LMU Munich as a postdoc and veterinary specialist for experimental animal science. In the year 2015 she moved to internal medicine at the Klinikum rechts der Isar of the TU Munich and to the Institute for Prophylaxis and Epidemiology of Cardiovascular Diseases at the LMU. In 2017, she received one of the coveted Starting Grants from the European Research Council (ERC) to explore the effects of diabetes on small blood vessels on the heart muscle. Her research focus, heart failure in different animal models with a strong relation to clinical application, will remain true to her in Göttingen.
