Prerna Arora was awarded the prestigious Postdoctoral Award for Virology by the Robert Koch Foundation for her significant research contributions. She is a scientist in the Infection Biology Unit and researches the virological properties of SARS-CoV-2.

In cooperation with the German Societies for Hygiene and Microbiology, Immunology and Virology, the Robert Koc Foundation annually awards three postdoctoral prizes to young scientists for outstanding work in the fields of immunology, microbiology and virology. Prerna Arora was awarded this year's prize in the field of virology for her outstanding scientific achievement in researching newly emerging SARS-CoV-2 variants.

Prerna Arora's research contributes significantly to the fundamental understanding of the properties of emerging SARS-CoV-2 variants and thus helps to optimize COVID19 vaccination strategies and clinical treatment options for infected individuals. Particularly noteworthy are her findings regarding the loss of efficacy of therapeutic antibodies against emerging SARS-CoV-2 variants and the increased escape of emerging SARS-CoV-2 variants from neutralization by antibodies produced after vaccination with non-adapted COVID-19 vaccines.

Her colleagues in the Infection Biology Unit warmly congratulate Prerna Arora on this well-deserved award. They are proud to support her in her scientific career and to be part of her pioneering research.
