Prof. Dr. Julia Fischer elected to the Leopoldina

In recognition of her outstanding scientific achievements, Julia Fischer has been elected a member of the Leopoldina - National Academy of Sciences. With the presentation of the certificate of admission on November 23, 2023, she has now officially accepted her role as an active member of the Academy of Sciences. Julia Fischer thus becomes part of an exclusive community of researchers dedicated to promoting interdisciplinary research and scientific dialog.

Julia Fischer has gained an international reputation for her pioneering work in the field of primate research. She is head of the Cognitive Ethology Department at the German Primate Center - Leibniz Institute for Primate Research and professor at the University of Göttingen. Her research focuses on the social behavior, communication and intelligence of non-human primates. In addition to her scientific work, Julia Fischer is also committed to communicating science to the general public.

The Leopoldina is one of the oldest science academies in the world and enjoys a high reputation for its independent, broad-based expertise. Its task is to provide science-based advice to politicians and the public and to represent German science in committees. The admission of Prof. Julia Fischer as a member underlines not only her individual excellence, but also her influence on interdisciplinary research in the field of behavioral biology and cognitive research.

Julia Fischer expressed her delight at the nomination and emphasized how important interdisciplinary collaboration is for the advancement of science. "It is a great honor to be part of the Leopoldina and to have the opportunity to work with outstanding colleagues from different disciplines."
